German national table tennis player Sabine Winter is among the latest names to join the line-up for the World Ping Pong Masters, which takes place at Ricoh Arena, Coventry, on January 23 and 24, live on Sky Sports Mix.
Winter will be joined by the likes of England’s Chris Doran, Denmark’s Benjamin Sorensen and Spain’s Javier Benito Rodriguez in the brand new event, which carries a $102,000 prize fund and will be played over two action packed days.
Broadcast live on Sky Sports Mix and global broadcasters including DAZN and Matchroom.Live, the World Ping Pong Masters follows on from the success of the World Championship of Ping Pong. The new event will feature 24 of the world’s best ping pong players in a straight-knockout format, with the popular Golden Buzzer Power Play in play.
Four-time World Champion Andrew Baggaley has already been confirmed, as have Gavin Rumgay, Alexander Flemming and former World Champion Maxim Shmyrev, with the full line-up to be announced later this week.
The event will take place behind-closed-doors in a strict Covid-19 bubble in line with UK Government guidance. Players will travel to the UK and compete under Elite Sports Person Exemptions and will be met on arrival to the UK and driven directly to the Ricoh Arena for Covid-19 testing. All players will also be tested before travelling to the UK and will only be allowed to board their flights after receiving a negative test result.
